The Southern Ontario Fire Fighters Curling Association celebrated our Fiftieth Anniversary
in 2010.
The result of a British Columbia Fire Fighter and curling enthusiast, Aubrey Neff, who
shared his dream coast to coast in 1958 to encourage the formation of a Canadian
Fire Fighter Curling Championship.
We are curling members of the fire service, both Professional and Volunteer, brought together early each
new year to share good fellowship through the medium of curling. Fire Service members gather from across
the province from Ottawa, Windsor and south of
Wawa at Hwy 101, to play down in our annual championship.
Our champions then represent Southern Ontario at the Canadian Championships, capturing the Canadian Fire Fighters Muscular Dystrophy Hydrant Trophy on twelve
occasions in the last 50 years. We are curlers of all skills and abilities including past
World Curling Champions Ed Werenich, Neil Harrison and many novice curlers.
Our championship format allows for great competition and fun where everyone will find
their level of enjoyment. Many of the friendships built on a weekend of curling have lasted long past the last rock,
some until their last alarm.
This year’s championship is in St. Catherine's February 10 -12, 2012. Details on this
event including an entry form can be found in the Southern download section of the web site.
The Association is open to all Fire Service Members, Support divisions Volunteer and Composite departments current and
Retirees.
Any questions please contact one of our executive. We always look forward to welcoming new members.
